Velan has been selected for supply of valves for the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) in South Africa. This initial order is for severe service control valves, y-pattern bellows seal globe valves and check valves for the Helium Test Facility (HTF) loop. The HTF loop will be used to qualify components for the PBMR demo reactor, whose construction is scheduled to begin in 2007. Promising to be a safe, clean, cost-efficient and adaptable nuclear power plant design, the PBMR has generated a lot of interest from utilities around the world.
